Welcome!
I'm a historian who specializes in America since the Civil War. In particular, I study African Americans, Southerners (whites in the American South), race relations, and intellectual history.
I work at Howard University, where I am Professor of History and Chair of the History Department.
Since 2003, I have devoted a good deal of my time to the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), the oldest society in the world dedicated to the study of people of African descent. I am the Vice President for Programs for ASALH - www.asalh.org.
